Bighorn River Duck Hunts
Book your guided duck or goose hunt on the Bighorn River today!
RRO is the only outfitter on the Bighorn River whose primary objective is duck and goose hunting. We are not a fishing operation supplementing our fishing season. River duck hunts and field Canada goose hunts are our specialty!
We hire only licensed and insured guides, hand picked for their temperment, knowledge and instincts. Jeremy has been guiding hunters and fishermen since 1994 and has over 3500 guide days to his credit. There is a reason why we are the largest waterfowl outfitter in Montana. We’re duck hunters…..
A typical day starts with an early morning jet boat ride in a River Raptor, G3 or Willie jet boat. Our boats are the nicest on the water bar none. Our guides use a mixture of natural, layout, panel blinds to put flocks of mallards right over the decoys. We don’t believe in Cast n Blast trips, where you fish/hunt in the same day (and do both equally poorly). We shoot over decoys only, and don’t believe jump shooting is duck huning. While we cannot guarantee your limit everyday, it is very common to be done hunting mallards before 1pm. We try to be off the water no later than 2pm to ensure the birds a comfortable roost on the river each night.
RRO has compiled a list of over 200+ blinds to accommodate any hunting situation. We hunt a wide variety of locations to minimize our impact on our local resource. Our guides work tirelessly scouting to ensure your trip will be a complete success. You can expect to see your limit of mallards everyday, plus a mixture of: widgeon, gadwall, wood ducks, blue wing teal, green wing teal and various divers depending on weather and time of year.
According to FWP biologists, over 300,000 Canada Geese come through this valley each year. We do see occassional lessers, snows and specs, but 99% of the hunts are for giant honkers. We harvest Quill Lakes Canadas regularly every season.
River lunch and bird processing is included in the daily rate but we encourage all our guests to join in for bird cleaning and an adult beverage after a great shoot. It’s fun! We require that all guests keep the birds that you harvest! Please make plans ahead of time to account for your birds. It’s not only the law, it’s just the right thing to do.
We have guns available for your use (if needed) and we allow hunters to bring their own WELL TRAINED dogs. Your dog will not retrieve every bird during your hunt. They will trade off with guides’ dog, so being steady and honoring is a requirement.
